Sweaters for Women -No Frumpy Sweaters Please

The design line for sweaters for women walks a thin barrier between appealing and frumpy. I was just looking over some of the sweaters over at Kohl’s and they had definitely crossed the line from classic style to positively frumpadelic in their designs. Then by chance, I also got an email tonight from Victoria’s Secret (where I often forget to look for sweaters) and they actually had some really sassy designs in sweaters for women.
Honestly I could live without the words on this sweater, but if you have never experienced the feeling of wearing a silk and cashmere blend, I high recommend it.

this angora tunic sweater with the wide band is designed to hide a multitude of figure flaws and it will work too. It calls attention to the shoulders (if you have a little glitter dusting powder, give ‘em something look at on your shoulders and make ‘em sparkle over the holidays). Angora is another type of sweater every women should have at least one of in her closet.

Vintage Sweaters and New Vintage Sweaters

There are two main types of vintage sweaters, real vintage sweaters and the redundant sounding “new” vintage sweaters. Real vintage sweaters are sweaters that are obviously from a time in the past. A little looksee on Ebay will reveal sweaters from the 1920′s to the 1970′s easily and most at very affordable prices.
Another great place to find vintage sweaters are resale shops and thrift stores but the quality may definitely be second hand looking.

New vintage sweaters refers to sweaters that are made in the present but based on a vintage design and often vintage fibers will be used in the creation of the sweater. One of the most popular time periods for new vintage sweaters designs are the 1940′s and the 1950′s. Along with a bullet bra, a woman can pull off a totally vintage “Sweater Girl” look that was once so popular.

Here’s a great video featuring the “new” sweater designs for 1952 sweater line, it’s hokey as heck but it will give you an idea of the design lines from the early 1950′s.

Easy Cashmere Sweater Care Tips

For their price, cashmere sweaters are amazingly easy to take care of. Cashmere is made from the hair from the chin of a goat breed that has very fine hair. The finer the hair, the more expensive your cashmere. You can expect to pay the most for cashmere sweaters from china as they only use the hair from white goats. This is so the sweaters are easy to dye and take to the colors with brilliant results.

Cashmere should be hand washed to preserve your sweater. Using a gentle soap and hand washing, and your cashmere sweater should last for years to come because correct hand washing actually allows the fibers in your sweater to bloom and stay supple instead of becoming brittle.

Use lukewarm water and an all natural soap (there are soaps made for cashmere).
Get your sweater thoroughly wet.
Apply the soap.
Gently work the soap through the sweater.
Rinse in water the same temperature until it run clear with no bubbles.
Do not wring your sweater.
Instead, lay on a flat, dry towel and gently roll up the towel with the sweater inside to press out the water.
Unroll, reshape your cashmere sweater and lay flat to dry. When completely dry, fold your sweater and place on a closet shelf. Or place in a drawer where nothing will be placed on top of it.
Never hang cashmere.

That’s it, that’s all you have to do to keep your cashmere sweaters looking beautiful.

Ran across great article today about dog sweaters. Many people are under the impression that people dress their dogs because it’s so cute. And it’s true, some people do it for that reason and that reason alone. However, if you live in an area where the winters are frigid and frozen, that won’t change the fact that your dog has to go out and do his business in the great outdoors no matter what the weather is like. If you have a breed that is short haired and small, like a Chihuahua for example, you may find yourself shopping for dog sweaters for the first time.

Kids in elementary school used to get yelled out by their mothers for sticking their thumbs through the sleeves of their sweaters, now it’s a fashionable choice. But the thumb holes should be pre-cut and not just stretched out sweater material.

Oops! Retailer Backpedals Away from Steve Jobs’ Sweater Supplier Claim

Backpedal Award for “We didn’t really mean it THAT way” may go to a Minnesota retailer, Knitcraft Corporation, who made comments that sure looked like they were saying they were the company Steve Jobs bought his trademark black turtleneck sweaters from.

The founded of Knitcraft, Bernhard Brenner and vice president Mary Bergin, certainly gave the impression that Knitcraft was the company Steve Jobs got his black sweaters at. Critics immediately accused them of making up the story (for lack of a more polite phrase) to simply boost sales. Bergin countered the claim and said they never exactly claimed that Jobs was their customer.

“We have never been in touch with Jobs,” Bergin told the Minneapolis Star Tribune ( http://bit.ly/mSvmys). “We, like everyone, have seen on the Internet for years that he wore our product. But we don’t know who said it.”

The quote in question was made by Brenner when he was interviewed by the New York Post on October 6, 2011 and the quote read like this, “The man made quite an impact, even outside of computers,” said St. Croix founder Bernhard Brenner, 72, who sold Jobs about 12 of the shirts a year.

In the best “I’m wiggling out of this story” in recent history, Bergin said Brenner’s statement didn’t imply that Knitcraft had any sales direct to Jobs. “What was stated is that Mr. Brenner `would estimate he could have purchased a dozen a year,’” she said.

Bergin herself was quoted by the Winona Daily News saying Jobs was a customer. The newspaper’s story included these two sentences: “He has always been upfront that he likes wearing our product,” said Mary Bergin, vice president of Knitcraft. Jobs purchased a few dozen turtlenecks every year for the past 15 years, she said.
Bergin said she, too, was misquoted. What she actually said was “several reporting agencies indicate that Steve Jobs has been upfront that he likes wearing our product,” she told the Star Tribune.

I know, I know, you’re thinking but haven’t penguins lived in sub-zero temperatures for a long, long time without the aid of looking fashionable and being warm? It’s true they have but there’s an added factor for these penguins; the small blue penguins of North Island, New Zealand were coated in oil from one of the worst spills in history for that nation and as a result, the birds cannot preen themselves as the oil is toxic.

Someone wrote us and asked, what is the most expensive sweater? And we started looking. Obviously, we first assumed it would be made from some exotic fabric, maybe it was a sweater designed with diamond drops frosting the collar. Perhaps a famed designer made a sweater only once and it’s a truly one-of-a-kind making it the most expensive sweater in the world.

We looked high and low and you know what? We found the most expensive sweaters in the world in a place we would have never have guessed – Bill Cosby’s closet. You got it, the sweaters that he wore as Dr. Huxtable are the most expensive in the world. If you remember, he wore some pretty loudly designed and unique sweaters during the run of “The Cosby Show” from seasons 3 through season 8.

Bill Cosby was auctioning the sweaters off for $5,000 with the proceeds going to the Hello Friend/Ennis William Cosby Foundation, which Bill Cosby founded after the murder of his son, Ennis.
So there you have it, the most expensive sweaters in the world.
